Level II Trauma Designation at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen
Very often, there is little to no choice when and where a traumatic accident will occur. At Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen, it is our goal to provide our community with the highest level of quality care possible, especially in times of emergency.
The Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen Trauma Center has been verified as a Level II Trauma Center by the Verification Review Committee (VRC), an ad hoc committee of the Committee on Trauma (COT) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
The Trauma Center has also been designated as a Level II Trauma Center by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. t is the first Level II Trauma Center in the Rio Grande Valley since 2018.
A facility with Level II trauma designation:
Can initiate ultimate care for all injured patients
Offers 24-hour immediate coverage by general surgeons
Provides coverage in specialties of orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine, radiology and critical care
Provides trauma prevention and continuing education programs for staff
Incorporates a comprehensive quality assessment program
