  • Certified nurse-midwives to bring you the expertise of both an advanced practice registered nurse and a certified midwife at Valley Baptist Medical Center—Harlingen
  • Childbirth and parenting education classes to prepare you for what's ahead
  • An OB available around the clock, 24/7, in case of emergency
  • Valley Baptist-Brownsville is certified as a Texas Ten Step Program facility and a Mother Friendly Certified workplace
  • Both hospitals offer Skin-to-Skin Care, and Valley Baptist-Brownsville offers access to a certified Kangaroo Care Nurse as well as accommodation to family birth plans. The goal at both hospitals is to keep mother and baby together at all times

Valley Baptist—Brownsville by the Numbers

  • 36-bed postpartum unit (28 private and 4 semi-private rooms)
  • 32 renovated private rooms
  • 32-bed Level III NICU
  • 10-bed labor, delivery and recovery unit
  • 3 triage beds and 2 private observation rooms
  • 4 dedicated operating room suites
  • 4 recovery beds in PACU

Valley Baptist—Harlingen by the Numbers

  • 31 renovated postpartum rooms
  • 30-bed normal newborn nursery
  • 38-bed newborn intensive care unit
  • 14 renovated labor and delivery rooms
  • 7-bed OB Emergency Department available for pregnant mothers 20 weeks and above
  • Specially trained Labor and Delivery and Mother Baby nurses who can assess fetal monitoring and obstetrical complications.
  • Couplet Care that allows mom and baby to remain together after delivery through their hospital stay to support family bonding, skin-to-skin contact and successful breastfeeding
  • Daily Leader Rounds conducted by a hospital leader each day to ensure patient satisfaction
  • Specialized Post-Delivery Celebration meal for mom and support person
