Valley Baptist Health System invites you to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with us. Lasting from mid-September through October, Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity to explore the vibrant cultures, enduring traditions and impactful contributions of Hispanic Americans.

Every day, across our organization, teammates with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives collaborate to deliver high-quality care and services. Our collective knowledge and strong teamwork drive the challenging work we do.

During this month, we will share the stories of members of our Valley Baptist Health System family who play vital roles in our mission to provide compassionate, award-winning care to our communities. How does this year’s National Hispanic Heritage Month theme – “Together, We Are More / Unidos, Somos Más” – resonate with you?

As a proud Puerto Rican, this theme feels very personal. Our culture is built on family, community, and looking out for one another. Whether it's through our traditions, our faith, or simply the way we come together during good times and difficult times, we've always understood that our strength comes from unity. "Unidos, Somos Más" reminds me that when people support each other and work toward a common purpose, we can accomplish far more than we ever could alone. That belief is something I carry with me every day, both personally and professionally.

How has your heritage or personal experience influenced how you approach your work?

My Puerto Rican heritage has shaped who I am as a leader and as a person. I was raised with the values of hard work, respect, resilience, and service to others. Those values have guided me throughout my career in healthcare and influence how I connect with patients, colleagues, and our community. I believe in leading with empathy, building strong relationships, and creating an environment where everyone feels valued and heard. Growing up in a culture that places such importance on people and family reminds me that behind every decision and every interaction is a person who deserves compassion, dignity, and respect.
