Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

A Higher Level of NICU Care for Your Newborn

When you stay at Valley Baptist Medical Center, you can take comfort in knowing that we offer a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where we provide high-level care for premature and critically ill babies. Babies who need to go to the NICU are usually admitted within the first 24 hours after their birth, typically because they are born prematurely, show signs of a complication in the first few days of life or have difficulty during their delivery.

Around-the-Clock Care

Should your baby need intensive care, our neonatologists are on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide advanced care. Our compassionate, highly skilled NICU staff also includes respiratory therapists, physical therapists and assistance from social workers.

Valley Baptist—Brownsville’s NICU is a Level III facility with 34 beds, and can care for babies at the critical, step-down and intermediate care levels.

Valley Baptist—Harlingen also offers a Level III NICU facility, with 40 beds to serve the tiniest of newborns.
