Valley Baptist to Promote Breast Cancer Awareness Through “Mimos & Mammos” Event
Feb 23, 2018BROWNSVILLE — As the month of October gets underway, the community is invited to join Valley Baptist Health System in its efforts to promote breast cancer awareness during “Mimos & Mammos” on Thursday, October 5 at 6 p.m. at the Rancho Viejo Convention Center.
The fun and informative event begins with a mimosa reception, during which attendees can visit a booths to receive important breast cancer information as well as schedule their annual mammograms.
The keynote speaker of the event is Donna Tyson, a nationally-recognized motivational speaker who will take attendees on her journey to overcome the challenges of life and breast cancer during her presentation “Turning Point: My Journey through Breast Cancer”. In the spring of 2014, Tyson was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer, a particularly aggressive and resistant type of the disease, and she spent the next two years in chemotherapy and healing treatments.
Tyson is known for her ability to touch hearts and inspire people to reach their highest potential, and her unique style has been described as a “cross between a preacher, a politician and a comedian”.
Valley Baptist Health System Market Director of Marketing Teri Retana said Tyson’s inspirational message of courage is one that can resonate with a broad audience.
“Donna has spoken in Brownsville before, and returns after an absence of more than a decade. We invite her many followers to join us again to hear her inspirational stories,” she said. “If you haven't heard her speak, we can assure you that it will be an evening well spent.”
Additionally, local surgeon Dr. Vijian Dhevan will provide an update on breast cancer, offering insight on the diagnosis and treatment of the disease that affects one in eight women.
