Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen Ranks Among Top in Nation for Cardiac and Lung Care Treatment

Jan 7, 2019

Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen has been recognized as a high performing hospital by U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals 2018-2019 Best Hospitals rankings, the latest in a growing list of accolades Valley Baptist has received in 2018 for providing high-quality healthcare

U.S. News & World Report recognized Valley Baptist-Harlingen as a high performer for treatment of heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).  The Report evaluated more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide and assessed 25 specialties, procedures, and conditions.

“This is a major accomplishment for our team to be recognized among the top hospitals in the country,” said Manny Vela, Chief Executive Officer for Valley Baptist Health System.  “Our team is passionate about the care they provide our patients and this is a testament to their hard work.”

The selection criteria consisted of care-related indications, such as risk-adjusted survival and readmission rates, volume, patient experience, patient safety and quality of nursing.

“We are committed to elevating the standard of care for our patients of the Rio Grande Valley and continue to strive for excellence,” said Vela.

Valley Baptist-Harlingen is one of fourteen Tenet hospitals recognized by the U.S. News & World Report’s 2018-2019 Best Hospitals rankings.

“Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States.  Valley Baptist is committed to providing a wide-range of innovative techniques and leading treatments for heart failure caused by structural and ischemic heart disease,” said Dr. Charles Mild, Cardiologist for Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen.  “Recognitions such as these are important to our community because they raise awareness that quality and outcome performances are critical factors to the care we provide our patients.”

In addition to the recent recognition from U.S. News & World Report, Valley Baptist-Harlingen was recently recognized with the Tenet Healthcare 2018 Circle of Excellence Award and was also recognized by Leapfrog Group with an “A” rating for Patient Safety in Spring 2018.  In its commitment to elevate the level of care for patients of Cameron County, Valley Baptist-Harlingen was recently designated as a Level II Trauma Center, the only such designation in the Rio Grande Valley, and a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the second in Cameron County alongside Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville.
