Clinical Quality Indicators
(Core Measures)
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) have developed a core set of research-based quality indicators (Core Measure Initiative) which are being used across the country to measure the successful treatment of:

Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI)
Heart Failure
Pneumonia Care
Surgical Care Improvement Project

This measurement, based on evidence-based medicine, was established to improve the safety and quality of care and support performance improvement in hospitals. The Core Measure Initiative allows the review of data trends to improve patient care.
