Reflection of
the Month - May 2006
Growing up in a suburb of New Orleans had its uniqueness.
The house I grew up in was located on a lot that was
actually below sea level. Before my parents could build our
house, they had to put pilings that looked like telephone
poles into the ground before the concrete slab could be
poured. When the 3 bedroom house was built, there were only
four children, but five years later there were 6 children.
So we needed another bedroom. My parents decided to close in
the carport and make another bedroom and bathroom. Since my
brother, Philip, and I were the oldest, we got to move into
the new bedroom.
As the years began to
pass, the new bedroom began to sink and the floor cracked
because there were no pilings underneath the foundation. The
foundation was not the same. About two years ago, they
enlisted Cable Lock to secure the foundation and seal the
crack. But what if they had built the new bedroom on the
right foundation to start with? The right foundation would
have secured the foundation of the new bedroom.
Jesus in Luke 6:46-49,
talks about building on the right foundation. Jesus is the
right foundation. The Lord is often referred to as the Rock.
The foundation that Jesus is looking for in our lives is not
just calling Him, “Lord.” The right foundation is allowing
Him to be the Lord of our lives by hearing His words and
following them. Then Jesus tells us that the man who builds
his house on the right foundation (The Rock) will weather
the storms and the floods. But the man who builds his house
on the sand (those which are contrary to the words of
Jesus), will fall.
What foundation are you
building your life on? Jesus wants to be the Lord of your
life. It is not enough to call Him Lord. We must live
according to His Word if our lives are built on the right
foundation.
