The Neuroscience Services are designed to focus on the pre and post-hospital care of patients with neurological problems.
The physicians and nurses specialize in specific neurological conditions
such as neurology, neurosurgery, neuro-radiology, pain management, and/or
rehabilitation.
Entry into the system is simple and organized. Patients are referred
from the physicians’ offices or acutely from the emergency department.
For the convenience of
patients, families, and physicians, neurological beds are easily accessed in a centralized area of the hospital.
Education is a priority no matter where the patient is located. In
the Heart Corner at Valle Vista Mall, there is information on
stroke prevention and the promotion of a healthy life style. There are
special tests that can be performed to see if a physician referral is
recommended.
If the patient is preparing to have surgery, special education is
provided in the Outpatient Department in the East Tower. It is named the
Pre-Admission Testing and Teaching Program and is conducted by nursing
staff. Films have been designed to illustrate what the patient needs to
know prior to surgery.
During hospitalization, doctors, nurses, physical therapists,
occupational therapists, speech therapists, dietitians, pharmacists,
physician assistants, and a case manager help the patient and family
understand the disease process and what is necessary for recovery, as
well as how to regain as much of her/his former lifestyle as possible.
- If a patient needs further rehabilitation which is ordered by the physician,
we do offer rehab services in a specialized unit.
- Outpatient rehabilitation is also available for those patients who
have been discharged.
- For patients having pain, a referral can be made on campus to
physicians specializing in pain management.
- If additional radiology tests are required during hospitalization,
the patient is scheduled with inpatient radiology services.
Outpatients are scheduled in the new Treasure Hills Imaging Center
conveniently located at 1717 Treasure Hills.
- A referral is made by the patient’s physician if home health care
is needed.
For the stroke patient and her/his family, a “Stroke Support Group”
exists through the guidance of the Rehabilitation Department. For more
