The Outpatient Rehabilitation department at Valley Baptist
Medial Center-Brownsville provides a full range of services to
help patients with a wide variety of medical conditions. These
include rehabilitation after a stroke or traumatic injury,
sports injuries, "overuse" injuries such as carpel tunnel
syndrome, the treatment of simple aches and pains and more.
Managed by Rehab Care, the department offers patients a depth of
services, education and experience.
Depending on your condition, you may meet some or all of the
members of our rehabilitation team.
- The Physician: your primary care or referring
specialist is an important member of this team. All work
done in your rehabilitation will be communicated back to
your physician(s).
- The Physical Therapist: The physical therapist is
a licensed health care professional who will work with you
to improve movement of function, increase mobility and
lessen pain.
- The Occupational Therapist: The goal of this
licensed health care provider is to increase your
independence at home, school, work and leisure, and help
with any physical discomfort you may have.
- The Speech-Language Therapist: This professional,
also licensed by the state, treats communication and
swallowing disorders.
Additionally, again depending on your diagnosis, you may work
with other members of our multidisciplinary team, including a
case manager, certified diabetes educator, dietitian, social
worker, chaplain, or other health care professionals.
