5-Star Rating in 2005

The Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville Pediatric unit received a 5-star rating from PRC this year. The 5-Star designation is given annually to healthcare facilities that score in the top 10 percent of the inpatient national client database for the prior calendar year. The award is based on the percentage of patients who rate the facility as “excellent” for overall quality of care. “Valley Baptist has received these awards for extraordinary efforts that result in putting the care back in healthcare,” said Joe M. Inguanzo, Ph.D., President and CEO of PRC. “We’re delighted to work with such an excellent group of healthcare organizations, and Valley Baptist is certainly at the top of the list.”

Experienced Staff, Comprehensive Services

The Valley Baptist Medical Center Brownsville Pediatric Unit is located on the second floor of the main hospital, accessible via either the Women’s Center or front entrances of the hospital. This 18 bed unit is managed by Driscoll Children’s Hospital, and staffed by nurses who have dedicated a lifetime to caring for children. One of these many nurses is Lupita Cabrera, L.V.N., who began at the hospital in 1959, and looks forward to another four years before retiring so that she can “make it an even 50”. It is the long term staff and depth of experience, combined with the breath of educational resources and clinical teaching excellence of Driscoll Children’s Hospital that make the Valley Baptist-Brownsville Pediatrics department a favorite amongst physicians and the community.

We have specialized care from newborns through children during their school years and finally into their teens. From treating the minor bumps and illnesses that children experience to more major needs, Valley Baptist Medical Center –Brownsville provides a complete line of services to meet the health and development needs of the children in our community.

Our medical staff is comprised of both pediatricians and specialists, including neonatology, pediatric cardiologists and asthma specialists. In addition, our nutritionists, therapists and other healthcare professionals complete the Children's Services team at Valley Baptist.
