The Valley Baptist Medical-Center Brownsville Emergency Department is a
full service unit located at the Jefferson entrance of the
hospital next to the Women’s Center. With 24 beds, it is the
largest ED in Brownsville, visited by over 25,000 patients
annually.
Physicians trained in emergency medicine are on site 24 hours/day, seven days a
week, our team effort coordinated by Chief of Emergency
Medicine Dr. Khadim Hussain. Additional specialists are on
call, and on-site registered nurses and ancillary services
personnel provide decades of experience. Advanced technology
is on site, vital in an emergency when every second counts.
Four –Star Excellence
This year PRC, a national
hospital research firm, awarded Valley Baptist-Brownsville a
four star rating for customer service. This outstanding
recognition is based on telephone surveys conducted with
patients who used the emergency department, and puts the
hospital in the top 25 percent of the nation.
The hospital is also very
proud of the Six Sigma quality improvements achieved during
this past year, which significantly reduced the time from ED
to the other nursing units when an admission was required.
This is another example of the continuous and sustained
improvements Valley Baptist makes throughout the Health
System using Six Sigma methodology.
Level III Trauma Center
The hospital is a
designated Level III trauma Center, classified as such by
the Texas Department of Health. To receive and maintain this
level, the hospital must count on the services of a health
care team ready to respond to trauma around the clock.
Rigorous review is conducted periodically by TDH to insure
adherence to trauma level standards.
Express
Care
“Express Care”, a fast
track emergency service, was added this year to expedite the
treatment of less serious injuries or illnesses. This unit
is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Such conditions as a
sprained ankle or a minor medical complaint may be referred
to Express Care after initial evaluation by a triage nurse.
