Breast Cancer Center and Mammography
While there is no one way to prevent breast cancer, early detection is one of the best methods available in the fight against this disease that will affect at least one in eight women during her lifetime.

Scheduling an annual mammogram after the age of 40 (earlier if recommended by your physician), performing monthly breast self exams and having yearly clinical breast exams are all important tools in your arsenal against this disease.

Mammograms can be scheduled at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville by calling 698-5412. No physician order is required for those 40 years of age and older.

In early 2006, the hospital will move the "Women's Health Network" mammography center from its current location in the outpatient area to the Women's Center. The new Digital Mammography Unit will be located in the renovated first floor lobby. Also available will be a "Women's Resource Corner" with health information for women through the lifespan.
