Rehab: Stroke Care

According to the American Stroke Association, about 795,000 people suffer a stroke every year in the United States. On average, someone has a stroke every 40 seconds — and someone dies of a stroke every four minutes.

The number of stroke patients is expected to increase over the next decade because of an aging population and an increasing incidence of stroke. Many of the major risk factors for stroke, including:

  • High blood pressure
  • Diabetes
  • High cholesterol

...are very common among Valley residents. We want to help you reduce your risk of stroke and, if something happens, get better quickly.

Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville and Valley Baptist-Harlingen were the first hospitals in the Rio Grande Valley, and remain the only hospitals in Cameron County, to be designated as “Primary Level II Stroke Facilities” by the Texas Department of State Health Services. They were also the first Valley hospitals to be accredited as “Primary Stroke Centers” by the national accrediting organization for healthcare facilities, the Joint Commission, for their outstanding quality of care.
