May 3, 2009 --
Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen will include additional restrictions to the visitor policy as a precautionary measure against potential exposure to H1N1 flu. This policy is aligned with other facilities in the area, designed for the safety of patients, staff and visitors:
- Effective Monday, May 4, Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen will implement a screening questionnaire for all persons entering the hospital, including visitors and hospital personnel. This questionnaire emphasizes the policy already in place to limit visitors with signs and symptoms of a cold or flu. The questionnaire includes inquiries about the presence of a cough, fever and other symptoms of the flu. Hospital entry points will be limited to the South Tower, East Tower, Medical Arts Pavilion and Emergency Department entrances.
- Effective Monday, May 4, NO children 12 and under will be allowed in the hospital except as patients.
- Effective Tuesday, May 5, Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen will limit visiting hours to 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Other temporary restrictions implemented on April 30 will remain in effect until further notice:
Visitation to Adult Patient Units:
- Two adult visitors will be allowed in a patient room, per patient, at any one time.
Visitation to Women and Children’s Units:
- Limited to two “wrist-banded” visitors per patient. This refers to pre-identified adults who are designated visitors to this patient.
Visitation to all Intensive Care Units
