PEOPLE MAKE THE DIFFERENCE AT VALLEY BAPTIST MEDICAL CENTER
Harlingen, TX --
At Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen – once again voted “Best Hospital” by readers of the Valley Morning Star – our people make the difference. Nearly 2,000 employees, more than 370 physicians and 350 volunteers work around-the-clock, 365 days a year, to care for you and your family during your times of greatest need.
Valley Baptist is a community health service performing spiritually-based health, education and charitable programs in accordance with the teachings and healing ministry of Jesus Christ. As Cameron County’s largest hospital with 586 beds, Valley Baptist-Harlingen is committed to providing the best possible care for each patient.
For the second straight year, life-saving care provided by Valley Baptist physicians and employees made Valley Baptist-Harlingen and Valley Baptist-Brownsville the only hospitals in the Valley to receive “Triple Recognition” awards for care of coronary artery disease, heart failure, and stroke patients from the American Heart Association. Valley Baptist also recently received a “Gold Achievement” award for care of stroke patients.
In 2008, Valley Baptist became the first hospital in the Valley to offer robotic surgery with credentialed staff on site. The more precise surgery offered with Valley Baptist’s da Vinci® robotic system means smaller incisions for patients, less pain, and faster recoveries in many cases. Specially-trained doctors use the robot for prostate cancer surgery in men, gynecological surgeries in women, and general surgeries. In June 2009, Dr. Manuel Espinoza performed the Valley’s first robotic surgery to remove an entire kidney.
Also in 2009, Valley Baptist was re-designated as a Lead Level III Trauma Center for South Texas. Trauma patients are treated in a 32-bed, state-of-the-art Emergency Dept.
Valley Baptist is also a leader in women and children’s health care. Valley Baptist has the only Newborn Intensive Care Unit in Harlingen, the only diabetes education programs in Cameron County recognized by the American Diabetes Association, and a recently-renovated and improved 42-room oncology unit for cancer patients.
