VALLEY BAPTIST MEDICAL CENTER-BROWNSVILLE HONORED FOR EXCELLENT
CARDIAC CARE
Brownsville, TX, November 28, 2007 --Valley
Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville has been recognized by
the Alliance for Cardiac Care Excellence (ACE) for making
significant improvements in cardiac care. The ACE coalition is
made up of organizations such as the American Heart Association,
the American College of Cardiology, the Centers for Medicare &
Medicaid Services and the American Health Quality Association.
ACE member organizations have been working with hospitals to
ensure 95% of heart patients receive care represented by 12
quality measures. These measures include:
For patients with a heart attack:
• Use of aspirin and blood pressure medications
• Assessment of heart function
• Rapid removal of coronary artery obstructions
For patients with heart failure:
• Assessment of heart function
• Use of blood pressure medications
• Comprehensive patient education and discharge planning
In addition, all heart care patients that smoke should receive
smoking cessation counseling.
