Valley Baptist Volunteers
Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen and Valley Baptist Medical Center-Brownsville Auxiliaries are a group of hospital service volunteers whose mission is to provide dedicated, caring service to patients, visitors and staff; take responsibility for job performance; promote good community relations; and provide continuing financial support to Valley Baptist Medical Centers. The Auxiliaries will endeavor to promote self-esteem, develop lay leadership, and provide Christian fellowship to all members.
What can I do?
Volunteers serve in over 30 different departments of the hospital. Duties range from office work to delivering patient items to driving a golf cart. The Volunteer Office has a list describing the various jobs.
How often do I have to volunteer?
Most volunteers work one-half day a week. However, there are many options available if you have fewer, or more, hours available to give.
What do I have to wear?
All volunteers wear the volunteer uniform. Shirts and coats are available from the Volunteer Office at cost. Pants and tennis shoes complete the uniform.
Can my teenager volunteer?
Valley Baptist offers a student volunteer program each summer. The student must be 15 years old when he/she starts volunteering. Three separate 3-week sessions are offered during the summer. Each session is one half day, every day (Monday-Friday) for three weeks. The student must be able to commit to at least one complete three week session in order to be considered. Once the student successfully completes a summer session, their volunteer status is active for the remainder of the school year. They may want to continue volunteering on weekends or during holiday breaks. Applications for the summer program are accepted each year from March 1 – April 15. Orientation is required before beginning.
How do I get started?
There is an application that must be completed. Once the application is turned in, you will discuss where you would like to be assigned with the Volunteer Office. A hospital orientation completes the process. You will be assigned an area and a trainer to get you started.
Applications can be picked up at Valley Baptist-Harlingen and Valley Baptist-Brownsville between the hours of 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. If you would like an application mailed to you, or if you have other questions, please call or email the Volunteer Office.
