Health System Statistics
Valley Baptist is a comprehensive, integrated health system
comprised of two medical centers, an insurance company, active
living retirement community with a skilled nursing facility,
durable medical equipment company, home health agency, a
wellness Center and much more.
Together, we have more than 160 years of experience and we’re
proud to offer caring and compassionate health care services to
members of the Rio Grande Valley community. We know that each
day inside our doors, we care for some of the region’s sickest
patients, smallest babies and most complex injuries and
illnesses. With our doctors and nurses, we offer expertise in
Trauma, Cardiac Care, Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and many other
services … all to help maintain the good health of residents of
South Texas.
Women's Care
Valley Baptist is the Valley’s leader in women and children’s
health care. In 2003, Valley Baptist opened the Valley’s first
Children’s Center, a colorful, attractive 62-bed facility which
offers specialized medical care for children and infants. Valley
Baptist also has 32 rooms for new mothers and newborn babies in
the Valley Baptist Mother / Baby Maternity Unit, as well as a
38-bed Newborn Intensive Care Unit. Valley Baptist’s spacious,
attractive East Tower includes a 14-room labor, delivery and
recovery area; a 32-bed gynecology unit; a 30-bed Day Surgery
Center and a wide variety of outpatient services.
Diabetes Center and Those We Serve
In the year 2002, Ninety-one percent of patients were
successful with compliance with diabetes medications, 80%
complied with nutrition recommendations, 75% successfully
monitored their blood glucose, 60% succeeded in preventing
medical complications, and 66% complied with exercise
recommendations. Furthermore, 92% kept physician appointments
and 67% and 74% went for foot and eye exams, respectively. A
total of 55% had their urine protein examined and 75%
experienced a 1-2 pound weight loss.
Hospital Admissions Pre and Post Program
Also in 2002, a total of 85% and 91% of Type II and
gestational Diabetics avoided hospitalization three months after
our going through our Diabetes education program, respectively.
90% of gestational Diabetics had infants with birth weights
within normal limits.
