MAJOR NEW FITNESS CENTER TO OPEN IN HARLINGEN JUNE 30

HARLINGEN –A major new health and fitness center will open in Harlingen on Saturday, June 30, at the Treasure Hills Country Club, 3001 N. Augusta National Drive in the Treasure Hills area of Harlingen.

The 38,000-square-foot Valley Baptist “Bobby and Robin Farris” Health & Fitness Center includes large workout areas for strength and cardiovascular equipment; spacious group exercise studios for aerobic classes, etc.; a spinning studio; a multi-purpose gym; a warm-water pool for aerobics and rehab; an area for massage therapy; a juice / smoothie bar; locker rooms and child care. In addition, the complex will eventually include an outpatient rehabilitation / physical therapy clinic.

“As a part of its overall mission, Valley Baptist is committed to providing quality preventive health and wellness programs and services to the residents of South Texas,” said James Springfield, FACHE, President and CEO for Valley Baptist Health System. “Our goal is to address the fitness needs of all men, women and children regardless of exercise experience, physical condition or age.”

Darnell De Roulac, Director of the “Bobby and Robin Farris” Valley Baptist Health & Fitness Center, said the setting at Treasure Hills is “spectacular,” with views and vista onto the golf course and surrounding terrain from various parts of the complex.

“Our goal is to encourage Valley residents to make an investment in their health by developing an active and healthy lifestyle,” Mr. De Roulac added.

The Treasure Hills property became part of Valley Baptist Health System through a donation and partial acquisition in 2003. The property includes a total of 273 acres, including 56 acres of undeveloped land, 22 developed lots, and a golf course, which Valley Baptist is leasing to professional golf pros.

In addition to the health and fitness center, Valley Baptist’s plans for the property include developing additional meeting facilities to serve the needs of the health system and the community. A contribution by Bobby and Robin Farris helped make the health and fitness center a reality.
