Groundbreaking Held for New Long-term Acute Care Hospital
in Harlingen
HARLINGEN, Jan. 18, 2006 – Solara Healthcare, a
Dallas/Fort Worth based long-term acute care hospital company, Valley
Baptist Health System and local community physicians broke ground
for Solara Hospital Harlingen Jan. 18. Construction begun immediately. Patients will be accepted for
admission to the hospital beginning in the fall of 2006. Solara Hospital
Harlingen will be a 41-bed hospital, including a 6-bed ICU, designed to
treat patients’ acute complicated care needs that require an average
hospital stay of 25 days or more. The hospital will serve Harlingen and
the surrounding communities.

Solara Healthcare’s CEO Ken Ross stated, “We are pleased with the
opportunity to partner with community physicians and local hospitals to
bring extended hospitalization services to the Harlingen community.”
According to Dr. Hugo Blake, “A number of local physicians will
partner in the new hospital to ensure Harlingen patients who need
extended hospitalization will receive continued quality care in their
own community.”
James Springfield, President and CEO of Valley Baptist Health System,
said, “Our new hospital, in partnership with physicians and Solara
Healthcare will provide a service previously unavailable in Harlingen.
The new hospital continues Valley Baptist’s goal of expanding services
to better serve the community.”
Solara Hospital Harlingen will be located at 510 Victoria Lane in
Harlingen. Solara currently operates hospitals in McAllen, New Orleans
and Shawnee, Oklahoma and has several hospitals in development in Texas
