Dr. Donald Roa Named Physician of the Year
at VBMC-Harlingen
HARLINGEN, March 13, 2006 – Dr. Donald Roa,
Cardiologist, has been named Physician of the Year at Valley Baptist
Medical Center-Harlingen.

Dr. Roa received the award from VBMC-Harlingen CEO Shane Spees during
a recent Medical Staff meeting at the hospital. The annual balloting for
“Physician of the Year” is open to all VBMC-Harlingen employees and is
conducted by the Ambassadors of Service, a group of Valley Baptist
employees which sponsors special projects at the hospital.
Hospital employees indicated that they voted for Dr. Roa because of
his courtesy, respectfulness, prompt response time, and many other
qualities. “Dr. Roa always walks with a smile on his face,” one employee
said. “He is very polite and is always ready to read reports.”
“I have had many patients tell me how happy they are with the quality
and care from Dr. Roa,” another employee stated on the award nomination
form.
Another employee said that Dr. Roa is “a huge factor” in Valley
Baptist’s “Six Sigma” quality improvement performance in the hospital
Laboratory.
“I enjoy working with him,” the employee added. “I have heard really
good feedback from his patients that he takes his time and listens. With
the staff he is very approachable.”
Dr. Roa practices at the Valley Diagnostic Clinic and is Board
Certified in Cardiovascular Diseases, Nuclear Cardiology and Internal
Medicine. He attended undergraduate school at the University of Santo
Tomas in Manila in the Philippines, and graduated with a B.S. in Medical
Technology, Summa Cum Laude. He received his Doctor of Medicine Degree
from the University of Santo Tomas, graduating Magma cum Laude.
Dr. Roa did an Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine at the
New York University School of Medicine and was named Chief Resident in
Internal Medicine. He then completed a fellowship in Cardiology at the
New York University School of Medicine.
Dr. Roa is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the
American Heart Association, the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology,
the American Society of Echocardiology, and the American College of
Physicians.
