New Medical Plaza, Valley Baptist Surgery Center
to be Built in north Brownsville

BROWNSVILLE, March 27, 2006  – Local community physicians and Medistar Corporation, a Houston-based medical real estate developer, along with Valley Baptist Health System broke ground for North Brownsville Medical Plaza in Brownsville March 27, 2006. Construction began immediately.

North Brownsville Medical Plaza is a 70,000 sq. ft., medical plaza containing outpatient surgery, imaging services, physical therapy, lab, and physician offices serving Brownsville and surrounding communities. The medical plaza will be open to patients in March 2007.

The North Brownsville Medical Plaza will be located at 5700 North Expressway 77/83, Brownsville, TX (just north of the new Driscoll Children’s Clinic on the east side of the Expressway).

Alejandro Betancourt, M.D., Neurosurgeon, stated, “North Brownsville Medical Plaza combined with the latest technology and equipment will give us the opportunity to provide outstanding healthcare services to the community of Brownsville. We look forward to this great opportunity and the continued enhancement of healthcare in the Rio Grande Valley. This will allow us to implement new technology such as minimally-invasive outpatient spine surgery.”
