Valley Baptist Helps Literacy Center, Wins 1st Place Trophy in
Spelling Bee
Valley Baptist Health System helped the Harlingen Literacy Center
while also coming away with the first place trophy during the "Great
Killer Bee" Executive Spelling Bee Set. 29, 2005.
The annual Spelling Bee helps raise funds for the Literacy Center,
which assists illiterate adults and older youth in acquiring the
listening, speaking, reading and writing skills they need to help
themselves in their daily lives. Literacy Center officials and
volunteers thanked Valley Baptist and other local businesses for serving
as charter members of the Literacy Center.
During
the Spelling Bee, a three-person team from Valley Baptist competed
against 11 other teams from local businesses and organizations.
Valley Baptist won the Spelling Bee after successfully spelling the word
“frondescence.” The Valley Morning Star finished second in the
event.
Members of the VBHS Spelling Bee team were Linda Schulte, Director of
Service Excellence for Valley Baptist; Stacie Edwards of the VBHS Planning Services Department; Lee Helm of Valley Health Plans; and Michael
Swartz of Corporate Communications (alternate member).
