"Miracle Kids" to Experience Miniature Golf -- Thanks to Valley Baptist

McALLEN, TEXAS - Nov. 14, 2005 – Valley children with disabilities and special needs will get a chance to play miniature golf -- some for the first time -- on Saturday, Nov. 19 at 9:30 a.m. during a “Miracle Kids of South Texas” event at the Zone Action Park, 2600 W. Expressway 83 in McAllen.

The event, sponsored by Valley Baptist Health System, will enable disabled and special-needs children ages 5 to 12 to play miniature golf, if necessary with the assistance of a trained “buddy.” The “buddies” are Valley students and other community volunteers who help disabled children with sports activities such as golf, tennis, baseball and bowling.

In addition to Valley Baptist, supporters for the “Miracle Kids of South Texas” program include the Rotary Club of Harlingen, Texas State Bank, and American Electric Power.

The first Miracle League sports program was formed in Atlanta, Georgia in 1998. The Valley Baptist Round Outpatient Rehabilitation Center in Harlingen -- which treats special-needs children on a regular basis -- brought the idea to the Valley in 2002 and the Miracle Kids of South Texas was formed.

For more information on the Miracle Kids of South Texas -- including registration information for a disabled child who would like to participate in this unique opportunity to play a round of miniature golf -- please contact the Valley Baptist Foundation at (956) 389-1614 or by e-mail at foundation@valleybaptist.net.
