Driscoll Partnership Enhances Children's
Services In Brownsville Area
Driscoll
Children’s Hospital is carrying on their tradition of helping children
of South Texas with services now expanding to Valley Baptist Medical
Center-Brownsville. Driscoll Children’s Hospital specializes in the
health and healing of children with doctors who are experts in
specialized care.
Driscoll Children’s Hospital will manage the pediatric units at
Valley Baptist-Brownsville. Currently, the services include the
management of 18 beds within their pediatric intensive care unit and 32
beds in the Newborn Nursery. Both of these units require the skill of
well-trained nurses who understand the importance of the first stage of
life. Valley Baptist-Brownsville is honored to have nurses who have been
with them for more than 45 years. These are nurses who have used their
talents to care for more than one generation of a family. The managed
care will continue through the Level 2 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
The need for specialized care has expanded to the NICU with the addition
of a larger facility back in 1999 with a total of 36 beds. Valley
Baptist-Brownsville also has a Breastfeeding Room for mothers, a
tremendous benefit for both newborn and mom.
The combined services of Driscoll Children’s Hospital and Valley
Baptist-Brownsville will give the families of South Texas the outlet
they need for the development of their child and the specialized care
for their well-being.
James G. Springfield, President and Chief Executive Officer for
Valley Baptist Health System, said, “This partnership paves the way for
additional health care services and resources and better access to
medical care for children in the Brownsville area. This is an exciting
time for children’s health care in the Valley.”
President and CEO for Driscoll Children’s Hospital, Rick Merrill
comments “We are excited about this opportunity to partner with a
respected and admired hospital like Valley Baptist. Both our
organizations have been in South Texas for over 50 years offering hope
and healing in not-for-profit hospitals.”
