Dr. Brian Condit named “Physician of the Year” by Valley Baptist employees

HARLINGEN,  TEXAS - February 2004 – Brian E. Condit, MD, of Harlingen, a physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation, has been selected as the “Physician of the Year” by employees at Valley Baptist Health System.

Dr. Condit received the honor based on ballots by Valley Baptist employees, who were asked to nominate doctors who are courteous, respectful, good team players, and good listeners. Other criteria for the voting included having good bedside manners, answering pages, willing to come in when needed, taking time with patients and staff, and positive feedback from patients.

Dr. Condit is a physiatrist, a physician who specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation. Dr. Condit treats patients who require intensive rehabilitation following accidents, head injuries, amputation, heart surgery, joint replacement surgery, stroke, arthritis, etc. In addition to seeing patients at his clinic in the Valley Baptist Medical Center Professional Building, Dr. Condit also visits patients who are receiving rehabilitation therapy and restorative care in VBMC’s Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. The rehabilitation unit seeks to increase the patient's level of functioning before he or she returns home, with the patient receiving various types of therapy, including speech, physical, and /or occupational therapy,

Dr. Condit said he was very grateful for the award, which is presented in the form of a resolution from the Valley Baptist Health System Board of Directors.  “I’m floored … very surprised by this award … but very honored,” Dr. Condit said. 

 The balloting for the award was open to all Valley Baptist employees. The balloting was conducted by the Ambassadors of Service, a group of employees which sponsors special projects to benefit VBHS employees.

In presenting the award to Dr. Condit, Valley Baptist President and CEO James G. Springfield noted that Valley Baptist employees cited Dr. Condit’s “special patient touch which is shown on a daily basis.”

“Dr. Condit’s pleasing, caring attitude to patients and staff is incomparable,” Valley Baptist employees added in their comments about Dr. Condit. “He is definitely a people person; he treats each every person he encounters with respect, and is an excellent listener.”

Valley Baptist employees also cited Dr. Condit for his professionalism, compassion, courtesy and willingness to “go to bat” for his patients, the nurses he works with and the hospital. “Dr. Condit is caring; he is genuinely interested in his patients, and does not rush during patients’ visits or his follow-ups with patients,” the employees added. “He treats everyone as he would want to be treated.”
