Patients, Family Members, Community Invited to Nominate
"Helping Heroes" at Valley Baptist
HARLINGEN, TEXAS - October 15, 2004 – Hospital
patients, family members and the community are invited to recognize
“Helping Heroes” who have helped them during a time of sickness or
difficulty at Valley Baptist Medical Center-Harlingen.
Those who would like to recognize a Valley Baptist employee who was
especially helpful can now submit nomination forms online at Valley
Baptist’s website,
www.valleybaptist.net. Nomination forms for Valley Baptist’s
“Helping Heroes” program are listed in the “Guest
Information” section of the website. Forms can also be picked
up and dropped off at the hospital’s South Tower and East Tower Lobbies.

From
among the nurses and other hospital workers who are nominated by the
community, Valley Baptist picks a “Helping Hero of the Quarter” for a
special award every three months. “Helping Heroes of the Quarter” are
recognized for going the extra mile to help patients and the community.
Winners receive a $100 cash award, a reserved parking space, a “Helping
Hero” shirt, and additional recognition. Oliver Pelayo, RN, BSN, a nurse
with Valley Baptist’s Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, won the most recent
Helping Hero of the Quarter Award for the care and sensitivity he showed
to a mourning family who had just lost a child.
